"Ontario Security & Protection Services" also known as "OSPS". These Training Terms & Conditions & Disclaimer (“Terms”) apply to all individuals who purchase, enroll in, access, or participate in any training program, course, workshop, certification, or professional development program offered by Ontario Security & Protection Services (“OSPS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By purchasing, registering for, accessing, or participating in a training program, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.

1. Training and Professional Development

OSPS provides security-related training and professional development programs intended to provide participants with knowledge, skills, and practical instruction relevant to security and related occupations.

Completion of an OSPS course or receipt of an OSPS certificate does not automatically provide a government-issued licence, statutory authorization, or legal authority to work as a security guard, carry equipment, or use force in any jurisdiction where additional licensing, training, certification, employer authorization, or regulatory requirements apply.

Participants are responsible for determining and complying with all applicable federal, provincial, state, territorial, municipal, employer, and regulatory requirements.

2. Assumption of Risk and Personal Responsibility

Security work and related training may involve physical activity, defensive techniques, simulated physical conflict, equipment use, and scenarios involving potentially dangerous circumstances.

By participating in training, you acknowledge that physical training and related activities may involve inherent risks, including but not limited to slips, falls, strains, sprains, bruises, physical injury, illness, or other injury.

You voluntarily assume the ordinary and inherent risks associated with participation in the training program and agree to follow all reasonable safety instructions provided by OSPS and its instructors.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, OSPS, its instructors, employees, contractors, and representatives will not be responsible for injury, loss, damage, or expense arising from participation in training except where such responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit liability where applicable law prohibits such exclusion or limitation.

3. Use of Force and Defensive Techniques

Some OSPS training programs may include instruction involving defensive tactics, physical restraint, handcuffing, baton techniques, takedowns, ground-defense techniques, or other security-related defensive methods.

Participants acknowledge that these techniques are provided for training and educational purposes and must only be used when legally justified, necessary, reasonable, and proportionate to the circumstances.

Training does not authorize a participant to use force in circumstances where such force is unlawful.

Participants are solely responsible for understanding and complying with applicable laws, regulations, employer policies, and use-of-force requirements in the jurisdiction where they work.

Participants must never use any technique learned through OSPS training for unlawful purposes, retaliation, intimidation, punishment, or any purpose inconsistent with applicable law.

4. Handcuffs, Baton and Security Equipment

Completion of an OSPS course does not, by itself, guarantee that a participant is legally permitted to possess, carry, display, or use handcuffs, batons, or any other security equipment.

Authorization to carry or use particular equipment may depend on applicable legislation, licensing requirements, employer policies, site-specific requirements, or regulatory rules.

Participants are responsible for confirming applicable requirements before carrying or using any security equipment.

5. No Guarantee of Employment or Placement

OSPS does **not guarantee employment, job placement, interviews, employment offers, hours of work, wages, contracts, or employment with any particular employer or security company.

Where available, OSPS may provide reasonable career guidance, employment resources, referrals, or placement assistance.

Placement assistance means assistance only and does not constitute a promise or guarantee of employment.

Candidates remain responsible for applying for positions, maintaining required licences and qualifications, attending interviews, meeting employer requirements, and complying with all applicable employment and licensing requirements.

6. Course Access

Unless otherwise stated for a particular course, online course access remains active for 30 days from the date of purchase or enrollment.

Participants are responsible for completing the course within the applicable access period.

Once the access period expires, access may be suspended or terminated.

OSPS is not responsible for a participant’s failure to complete a course within the permitted access period due to lack of time, failure to access the course, technical issues on the participant’s device or internet connection, or other circumstances within the participant’s control.

7. Course Reinstatement

Where permitted by OSPS, an expired course account may be reactivated upon payment of a $40 reinstatement fee.

Reinstatement is subject to course availability and OSPS policies in effect at the time of the reinstatement request.

The reinstatement fee does not extend or restart the original purchase period unless expressly confirmed by OSPS.

8. Refund and Cancellation Policy

Unless otherwise stated for a specific program:

• All course purchases are considered final sale.

• Once a participant has started or accessed a course, the course purchase is non-refundable.

• Course purchases are not transferable to another individual.

• Course access cannot be carried forward to a later course period.

• Course fees cannot be adjusted because a participant does not complete the course.

• Promotional, discounted, or specially priced courses may be subject to additional restrictions disclosed at the time of purchase.

Nothing in this section limits any mandatory consumer rights that may apply under applicable law.

9. Equipment Purchases

Equipment purchased from OSPS may be returned or exchanged within 15 days of purchase, subject to the applicable product return policy.

Unless otherwise stated:

• The original receipt or proof of purchase may be required.

• Equipment must be returned in acceptable condition and, where applicable, with its original packaging and accessories.

• Defective products may be eligible for replacement, exchange, or refund in accordance with the applicable return policy.

• Certain products may be final sale or subject to additional restrictions.

OSPS reserves the right to assess returned equipment before issuing a refund or exchange.

10. Certificates

Upon successful completion of applicable course requirements, OSPS may issue a certificate of completion or professional-development certificate.

An OSPS certificate represents completion of the applicable OSPS training program. It should not be represented as a government licence or as proof of authorization to perform regulated activities unless the applicable government or regulatory authority expressly recognizes it for that purpose.

Participants should confirm with their employer and the applicable regulatory authority whether a particular OSPS certificate satisfies a specific employment, licensing, or site requirement.

11. Jurisdiction-Specific Requirements

Training requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Ontario, Canada

Participants working in Ontario are responsible for maintaining any security guard licence, mandatory training, testing, certification, or other qualification required by the applicable Ontario regulatory authority.

An OSPS certificate should not be represented as a replacement for any mandatory government licensing or training requirement unless expressly stated by the applicable authority.

British Columbia, Canada

Participants seeking authorization to carry or use handcuffs, batons, or other equipment in British Columbia must independently confirm the requirements established by the applicable British Columbia regulatory authorities and their employer.

OSPS does not represent that its training satisfies any specific British Columbia government or employer requirement unless expressly confirmed by the relevant authority.

California, USA

OSPS training is not represented as a substitute for training required by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) or any other California regulatory authority.

Participants seeking to add a baton, handcuffing, or other designation to a California security licence must independently confirm the applicable BSIS requirements and complete training through an appropriately authorized provider where required.

Other Jurisdictions

Participants outside Ontario are responsible for confirming whether OSPS training is accepted or recognized for their intended purpose.

Government licensing, regulatory, employer, or site-specific requirements may differ by jurisdiction.

OSPS does not guarantee that its training or certificate will satisfy the requirements of any particular government, licensing authority, employer, client, or jurisdiction.

12. International Recognition

OSPS training may be used for professional development and may be considered by employers or organizations in different jurisdictions.

However, recognition of a private training certificate is determined by the relevant employer, licensing authority, regulator, or government agency.

Accordingly, participants should not assume that an OSPS certificate provides legal authorization to work or perform regulated security duties in another country or jurisdiction.

13. Participant Conduct

Participants are expected to behave professionally and respectfully toward instructors, staff, other participants, clients, and members of the public.

OSPS may suspend or terminate a participant’s course access without refund where, subject to applicable law, the participant engages in threatening, abusive, violent, discriminatory, fraudulent, disruptive, or otherwise inappropriate conduct.

14. Accuracy of Participant Information

Participants are responsible for providing accurate and current information during registration.

OSPS may require additional information or documentation where reasonably necessary to administer a training program, issue a certificate, verify enrollment, or provide career-related assistance.

Participants must not provide false information or misrepresent their qualifications, licences, training, experience, or certificates.

15. Intellectual Property

All course materials, videos, presentations, manuals, written content, assessments, graphics, instructional materials, and other training content provided by OSPS are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Course materials are provided for the participant’s personal educational use only.

Participants may not reproduce, distribute, resell, publish, upload, share, modify, record, or commercially exploit OSPS training materials without prior written authorization.

16. Online Training and Technical Issues

Participants are responsible for maintaining a suitable device, internet connection, browser, software, and environment required to access online training.

OSPS will make reasonable efforts to maintain access to its online training platform but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access at all times.

Temporary interruptions may occur because of maintenance, technical issues, third-party service interruptions, internet connectivity problems, or circumstances beyond OSPS’s reasonable control.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, OSPS and its instructors, employees, contractors, representatives, and affiliated service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or economic losses arising from participation in a training program, use of training materials, inability to access a course, or reliance on training content.

This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

18. No Legal or Professional Advice

OSPS training is educational and professional-development content.

Nothing contained in an OSPS course, website, certificate, manual, presentation, or instructional material constitutes legal advice.

Participants should obtain appropriate legal or regulatory advice where they have questions concerning use of force, licensing, security duties, equipment, employment requirements, or applicable legislation.

19. Changes to These Terms

OSPS reserves the right to update or modify these Terms from time to time.

The version applicable to a participant may depend on the terms in effect when the participant purchases or enrolls in the applicable program, subject to any updates required by law or necessary for the administration of the program.

20. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be interpreted or limited to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

21. Governing Law

These Terms will be interpreted in accordance with the laws applicable in Ontario, Canada, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the applicable courts or tribunals having authority over the matter.

22. Acknowledgement and Agreement

By registering for, purchasing, accessing, or participating in an OSPS training program, I acknowledge that:

• I have read and understood these Terms & Conditions.

• I understand that security-related training may involve physical activity and inherent risks.

• I agree to follow reasonable safety instructions provided by OSPS and its instructors.

• I understand that training does not authorize unlawful use of force.

• I understand that OSPS does not guarantee employment, interviews, job placement, wages, or employment with any particular company.

• I understand that licensing and regulatory requirements may differ by jurisdiction.

• I understand the applicable course access and refund policies.

• I agree to use any techniques or equipment only as permitted by applicable law and employer requirements.

By completing registration or purchasing a training program, you acknowledge and agree to these Terms & Conditions and Disclaimer.
